The Jumbo, kept for the proportions
The story
If a collection is going to have a steel sports watch, I wanted the one where the design is the point rather than the hype. The Jumbo is the closest thing in the current catalogue to what Gérald Genta drew in 1972: 39mm, thin, the bracelet doing most of the work.
The 16202 replaced the 15202 in 2022 with a new in-house calibre, which quietly fixed the one thing collectors complained about, the old movement's age, without touching the case. That is the kind of update I respect. The rest of my Royal Oaks make sense only because this one exists.
Details with a purpose
Notes on the watch
- The 16202 succeeded the 15202 in 2022 with the new in-house calibre 7121.
- 39mm stainless steel case, roughly 8.1mm thick, the same footprint as the 1972 reference 5402.
- Petite Tapisserie blue dial, integrated bracelet, octagonal bezel with eight hexagonal screws: the Genta design unchanged in outline for fifty years.
