Asymmetry that still reads at a glance

The story

Most of my collection is Swiss and much of it is about a single mechanism you can watch. The Lange 1 is the opposite. Nothing moves in a way that draws the eye, and yet the dial is the most carefully balanced thing I own: off-centre hours, outsize date, power reserve and moon, each in its own place, none overlapping.

The moonphase version is the one I wanted because the moon on a Lange 1 is not an afterthought. It sits inside the seconds subdial, on a disc that only drifts a day in over a century. Rose gold with a silver dial keeps it warm without tipping into showy, which is where I want a watch like this to sit.

Details with a purpose

Notes on the watch

  • Reference 192.032, 18k rose gold with an argenté dial.
  • The orbital moonphase stays accurate to one day's deviation over 122.6 years.
  • The current Lange 1 Moonphase generation introduced a day-and-night indication on the moon disc alongside the redesigned Lange 1 base calibre.
  • Outsize date, off-centre dial layout and a three-day power reserve indicator, the Lange 1 signatures since 1994.
