Four ballots, four losses, then REDemption

The story

Four M.A.D. ballots. Four losses. Then came the M.A.D.2 REDemption. After entering every M.A.D. Edition raffle and never getting selected, I had almost accepted that this watch was not meant to be.

Then MB&F did something unexpected. Instead of another lottery, they went back through their records and offered the M.A.D.2 REDemption directly to collectors who had entered at least four times and never won. No luck required. Just persistence.

What I appreciate most is that the theme is not merely decorative. The jumping hours, trailing minutes and constantly rotating display make the whole watch feel alive, like a spinning record. And then there is the inscription on the rotor: They say I'm stubborn, I'd say persistent. Statistically, I was terrible at lotteries. Fortunately, MB&F decided persistence should count for something too.

Wearing it

It is the loudest watch I own and the easiest to wear. Steel, red, no leather to worry about. People who know nothing about watches ask about it more than anything else in the box, because the display is moving every time they look.

Details with a purpose

Notes on the watch

  • M.A.D.Editions began in 2021 as a thank-you from Maximilian Büsser to the suppliers and friends who built MB&F, people who could not justify a six-figure Machine. The first M.A.D.1 went out as a simple email, no campaign.
  • Jumping hours on a rotating disc with trailing minutes, read against a fixed marker; the display turns continuously, hence the spinning-record feel.
  • The M.A.D.2 was designed with Eric Giroud and launched in 2024.
  • REDemption edition: red dial plate, black hour and minute discs, rotor engraved with the line They say I'm stubborn, I'd say persistent.
  • Allocated in 2026 directly to collectors who had entered at least four M.A.D. raffles without winning, rather than by ballot.
